Press Brakes for Steel Furniture Manufacturing
Fast, repeatable bending of thin CRCA sheet for lockers, racks, shelving and office furniture.
High-volume bending for steel furniture
Steel furniture makers produce lockers, filing cabinets, almirahs, office desks, slotted angle racks, shelving, hospital and school furniture. Most parts are 0.6-1.6 mm CRCA, bent in large quantities. Output per shift and quick, error-free changeovers matter more than heavy tonnage.
Typical parts
- Locker and almirah side panels, doors and shelves
- Drawer bodies and runners
- Desk frames, modesty panels and tops
- Shelving uprights and shelves
- Bed and chair components
Choosing a press brake for furniture production
Because the sheet is thin, tonnage needs are modest: 1.2 mm CRCA over 2000 mm needs roughly 20 T. The choice of machine depends more on volume and part mix:
- Small batches, simple parts: PBR 320 or PBR 420 hydraulic press brake.
- Regular product range, medium batches: PLC press brake, with stored jobs for each model.
- High volume, multi-bend parts such as drawers and doors: CNC press brake, 40-80 T.
Continuous cycle mode on Devraj press brakes is useful for simple repetitive bends, and instant ram stoppage protects operators during fast production.
Productivity tips
- Group parts by tooling to reduce changeovers.
- Use stops or stored programmes for each product model.
- Cut blanks accurately on a shear first; blank size errors become bend errors.
Frequently asked questions
What tonnage press brake is needed for steel almirah and locker manufacturing?
For 0.8-1.6 mm CRCA up to 2000 mm, 30-40 T is usually enough. Longer parts may need an 80 T machine with 2500 mm length.
Is CNC necessary for furniture manufacturing?
Not always. For a stable product range, a PLC press brake with stored jobs is often the best value. CNC is worth it for high volumes of multi-bend parts.
